A tale of the second lines

modeanonyme:

Yesterday it was a day of second line presentations from Marc Jacobs, Jil Sander and Maison Martin Margiela.

Marc Jacobs offered matching looks for him and her at the Marc by Marc Jacobs show. In an interesting play on uniformity vs. individuality, his proposition involved suiting of the more casual sort, taken from the mundane to fashion statement through the shiny fabrics, the prints, the lurex, the sequins and the metallic trainers. An eighties vibe. Particularly loved the way the female models’ hair was held down by a scarf tied around their neck. There were pajama-like jumpsuits and suits, washed tops and tank dresses.

I for one will be heading more to the men’s proposition as I really enjoyed the jackets and shirts. And yes I will try to make one of the cropped trousers fit on me- hope they make really small men’s sizes :) The women’s was a bit too perky for my tastes, but I will go for the tanks, some pants, the scarf touch and the metallic trainers.

Jil Sander Navy was its usual minimal self, with great A-line and shift dresses and some fabulous volumes in the skirts and tops. You could feel a more sporty, collegiate tone to the clothes. There was also a slight Hawaii vibe, weird coming from Sander, but it was still done in her composed way.The prints were subtle, looking more abstract and geometric than actual Hawaii prints. The colors were pop but made for some great colorblocking.

MM6 by Maison Martin Margiela needs no words. A more practical, sporty and less deconstructed look for this line, but still in house’s signature minimalism. There was great layering in the form of cropped jacket over shirts and even other slightly oversized jackets. I also liked a transparent cocoon-like cropped top that looked like it was barely flowing on the body. There was structure in the form of boxy shirts, tailored short trousers, but also a flow through the dresses and shorts with longer panels in the back, the smooth silk dresses and the tops with loose sides hanging around the body. Color came in the form of shiny orange, deep salmon, emerald green and a subtle hint of turquoise, while the rest were the usual black and white of the house.
